Slow tag editing

I have been using piggydb some time now, the server version
(6.17) on my home server (Ubuntu 12.04, apache2). It is a great
program, I use it to make up an outline for a book I am
writing.
The problem: The program works well, but when I edit a number of
label/tags, for instance adding text, or changing their name,
piggydb becomes very slow to react. Though not a programmer, this
behavior makes me think of Java garbage formatting.
Question: should I change my configuration on the server, or is a
problem on the program side?

What browser do you use and could you describe the problem more in detail?
Does the same problem occur if you use the Piggydb sandbox?
