bug: could not import the database!

Reported by Xin Yin | April 19th, 2013 @ 08:57 AM

Hi Marubinotto,

I tried to export and restore the database today. The exporting generates a pig file (~7.9M). But if I import it with "Restore" menu, I got an error "The data file is invalid".

I tried another smaller database I just created for testing (export file is about 2.8M), and it works well. Does the import and export functions have size limitation? This worried me a lot as my database is starting growing fast!

FYI, I am using the latest version v6.10 of piggydb (piggydb-all-in-one-6.10.zip).

Kind regards,
Xin Yin

    Hi Xin Yin,

    Thank you for your report.

What happens if you import the file with the standalone edition? If the same error happens again, please check out the log file 'piggydb.log'.

Does the import and export functions have size limitation?

I'm not sure, but there might be limitations on upload size by the web browser's setting or your network environment, and this kind of limitation can't be controlled from an application. A safer way is to back up the database files directly if your database grows larger.

    Best regards,
    Daisuke

    Hi Daisuke,

I finally got time to try it with standalone edition and the problem remained. I also built a fake database with a lot of attachments (so the database is big) and the export/import went fine. Have no clue what is the problem!

I am backing up the database regularly. I think the export/import functionality will be more meaningful if it can export/import several selected fragments. This is useful if I would like to share part of my database to others.

    Kind regards,
    Xin

Are there any messages in piggydb.log?

    Hi Marubinotto.

I'm using the war version (6.10) and i have the same problem with the import/export. Just today i did not get to import my database. The message "The data file is invalid" appears in the final step of the upload process.

You say it is possible to back up the database files directly, but what must I do with the file "rdb-dump.xml" ????

Besides: Where the piggydb.log is generated when using Tomcat and piggydb.war ????

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Elyser,

The war package won't output piggydb.log by default (or maybe the logs are in tomcat's logs directory depending on your settings), so could you try to import the file with the standalone package and let me know the content of piggydb.log?

    Best regards,
    Daisuke
