Named URL's in the Document view don't works in standalone Version

Reported by Reinhold Titzeck | April 1st, 2013 @ 10:19 AM

Hi together,
in Version 6.10 you have done great work on the document View. You have implemented useful features to make the view of documents in html more consistent. I have just installed the new version and I find out, that the named URL's lead to empty pages on my desktop.
During installation I carried out this steps:
* Stop Piggydb * Copy 6.10-Files into Piggydb-folder * Starting Piggydb

Was this enough, or have I ignored something?

    Hi Reinhold,

Sorry. It's lack of documentation. If a named URL (/d/<name>) specifies a tag that is not a tag-fragment, it shows an empty page. That is because the document view supports only fragment trees(network).

I think that showing empty page is not user-friendly, so I will fix it in future versions.

    Thank you for your feedback!

    Hi Marubinotto,

For the document view of a tag, I would suggest to show the links to its child-tag (and parent-tag?) and a list of links to all the fragments with this tag attached. This makes browsing the database on smart phones (or tablets) feasible if you organize your tag as a concept map. Similarly, if you have an empty homepage, the homepage document view could also show a list of links to all first-level tags.

In addition, I would suggest that the document view for a normal fragment shows the attached tags on the top as well. In this way, you are able to browse to other concepts easily.

Please let me know your opinion about this.

    Kind regards,
    Xin Yin

    Hi Xin Yin,

As you pointed out, browsing fragments-by-tag is one of the missing parts in the document view.

I originally created the document view to browse the network of fragments in a plain format, so browsing by tags requires to update this concept somehow.

While the number of links a fragment has should not increase too much, the number of fragments tagged by a certain tag has no limit. You can attach a tag to as many fragments as you want. That's the difference between these two concepts: links(relationships) and tags.

So, the view for fragments-by-tag has to be scalable and that would be a type of view for a database rather than a document. I currently think that the normal view is responsible for that.

It would be a more appropriate solution that the normal view is updated to support smart phones (or tablets).

    Thank you for your feedback.

    Best regards,
    Daisuke
