Features supporting GTD

I also have been in search of the ultimate tool encompassing the mapping of knowledge fragments like a concept map; pulling together reference materials, tasks, scheduling; visualisation of knowledge, &c. I have used a collection of tools in past to cover some of this: TiddlyWiki, IHMC CmapTools, Task lists, MindRaider, ThinkingRock, Springpad, Outlook, flat files, engineering pad and post-it notes (ugh). Relating knowledge and being able to tie some of it to tasks and workflow would be brilliant.

Piggy is shaping up to perhaps be moving in the right direction to solve both my data and organisation needs. If you are taking ideas for bits to add, I have a few (in no particular order):

  • Some sort of calendar integration, or plugin capability to handle timely tasks
  • Something like #trash to be able to hide (archive) finished tasks without putting them in the bin with the rubbish (yes, I could probably work it out with tags and filters)
  • Visual representation of the fragments (concepts) and their relationships
  • Ability to label connections
  • Currently, you can inline fragments. It would be nice to be able to inline something like an editable UML or other diagramme. Maybe this is another plugin.
  • Better markup {flexible tables, accented characters, ...}
  • Some means to make it available on mobile devices {Android, &c.}
  • Additional reporting, like orphaned thoughts (I had a thought once, but it died of loneliness). Was it Novak who talked about concepts always having a context of some sort, or was it Buzan?

On the plugin thing, TiddlyWiki and some other programmes allow you to add functionality, but it is always at a price.

Nice work so far on Piggy!
